One of the things I look forward to when we start cruising around is experiencing holidays wherever. It could be a holiday that the USA doesn’t really have or just a variation on a worldwide holiday.
For example, in 2019, after finishing our ASA classes in Mexico, we spent a few days in Loreto on land, sightseeing. It was early November and Día de los Muertos had just passed. We were able to see the remains of a celebration in the town square by the Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó.

Yesterday, the 4th of July, marked Day 32 in the boatyard. We headed out to the point in an attempt to see the fireworks from the northern waterfront of San Francisco. The cloud bank was too low to see the full fireworks. We hung out for a few but only saw the glow and launch of boomies, never the actual cool part ?
Having just come from the boatyard, we knew that Richmond and San Pablo were lit! We stayed on the point and turned east. We just happened to be at the edge of a super-secure yard (Auto Warehousing) and ended up with a surreal warzone feel.
Back at the yard, the fireworks, low ceiling, and noise added to the warzone effect.
So there goes our first holiday on the boat!
