Two weeks ago, I exited a job I mostly enjoyed for 14 years. This is officially the longest time that I’ve been unemployed since age 16–34 years of grinding away. Sometimes at ‘just a job’ and sometimes at my passion–education!

What have I been doing?

Week One, I slept 12 hour days and had a fibromyalgia flare. I’m past it and feeling wonderful! I still like my sleep during Week Two.

I’ve started two books. I haven’t managed to stop reading multiple things at a time. I’m reading:

  • Desert Heat by JA Vance. I bought this book (actual book book!) in an independent bookstore in Arizona a few years ago, based on a recommendation from MIL. I cannot recall the last time a read a novel for fun.
  • The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jennifer Gunter. This one is on my Kindle and is for personal research. I’ll leave it at that. Tho, ladies, if you want to know what I think, ping me! ??

If you look at my GoodReads shelf, you’ll see more listed as “currently reading” which is true, yet not actively reading.

What’s happening with MACH 5?

We’ve had some very productive days!

  • I made a mesh drawstring bag to cover a pump.
  • Mark wired an emergency bilge pump to the house battery bank, for just-in-case.
  • He has made great progress on cleaning the fuel tank of diesel bug!
  • We bought and Mark installed our BBQ Grill!
  • We cooked on the BBQ Grill!
  • I’m on the third or fiftieth iteration of locker (closet) and drawer organization.
  • I am fighting mold on the mattresses. The battle is mostly lost–I’m fighting to keep it at bay while researching boat mattresses.
  • We done oodles of admin work related to the boat, or being “retired.”
  • Visited Napa on a workday without taking PTO or checking the calendar–that was weird and also fun!
  • Narrowed down our choice of haul-out boatyards to two, maybe even just one.
  • Discovered one of our DIY portlight screens has ripped. UGH! That didn’t take long.
