We did a thing! On Labor Day, we went out under the Golden Gate Bridge, to the lighthouse, and then back into the Bay.

The underside of the Golden Gate Bridge

This was our first trip out of the Bay and into the Pacific on MACH 5–and all by ourselves. It is somehow so very magical to sail under the bridge. We chatted with Behan and Jamie, our coaches, and two of the people on SV Totem, about it. We all agreed that the Golden Gate never gets old. She always feels special when crossing over or under.

Dolphins!

I was super excited to see dolphins around the boat! I’ve been waiting for this day since every Sailing YouTuber has at least a half-dozen videos of dolphins. But the thing I was not prepared for was that you can hear their breaths! The woosh/poof sound of air coming out of their spouts. This is not captured on YouTube and sounded so amazing. It sounds silly, but it’s wonderful.

I can’t wait to hear them talking under the water–and whales too!

Sausalito & Emeryville

We returned from the quick trip out to anchor in Sausalito. Then headed back to Emeryville because the land transport and walking to stores in strong. We needed to provision, pick up some parts, do a ton of laundry, and generally get ready for heading out.
